San Juan County requests your input for the Infrastructure Capital Improvement Planning (ICIP) public hearing. Your attendance and input is greatly appreciated. During this hearing you can expect to learn what ICIP is and how it benefits all of the County’s residents. You will also have an opportunity to share your thoughts and ideas on capital improvements that are important to you.
First, let us provide you with a brief description of what the ICIP is, what it does for the County, and what types of projects may be considered.
- Infrastructure Capital Improvement Planning (ICIP) is an important undertaking for San Juan County because it focuses on short- and long-term planning for infrastructure improvement projects and because it prioritizes these projects based on community need and project feasibility. A local ICIP should:
- The ICIP should include (but is not limited to) the construction and/or improvements of the following local types of projects:
- Encourage community interest,
- Function as a tool for community/citizen involvement,
- Foster agreements and give direction to a community’s future,
- Promote the repair or replacement of existing facilities before they fail,
- Provide a framework for decisions about community growth and development,
- Focus community/agency attention on priority goals, needs, and capabilities,
- Provide a guide to the “public facilities and infrastructure” element of a comprehensive plan,
- Provide an infrastructure plan that is flexible.

- Housing
- Sanitary Wastewater (Sewer) Collection and Treatment
- Storm and Surface Water Control
- Water Quality, Supply, Treatment and Distribution
- Solid Waste Transfer, Disposal and Collection
- Community Service Facilities (i.e. radio and telecommunications, computer, vehicles, etc.)
- Public Safety and Emergency (i.e. fire stations, law enforcement, and ambulance equipment and facilities)
