San Juan County Fire & Rescue Limits Burn Permit Hours
AZTEC, NM— San Juan County Fire & Rescue officials have changed the times open burning will be allowed in parts of San Juan County.
Starting Saturday, April 23, 2022, San Juan County Fire & Rescue will only allow open burning until noon, and only on days when the weather permits safe open burning. This change will be in effect until further notice.
Burn restrictions will be strictly enforced in unincorporated San Juan County, City of Bloomfield and Town of Kirtland
Residents can sign up to receive the daily burn recommendation by going to sjcounty.net/burn and get the daily recommendation by email or text message.
The burn recommendation is also posted to the San Juan County Fire & Rescue Facebook page. The burn recommendation is issued based on the weather forecast. The San Juan County Fire & Rescue closely monitors changing weather conditions and will update the recommendation as necessary.
If the burn recommendation allows, residents can call (505) 334-1180 to get a burn permit on weekdays and (505) 334-6622 on weekends and holidays. Permits are only issued for residents who are burning vegetative material. The resident will be asked what the nature of material being burned is, if they are the property owner, the location and a contact number. If issued a permit to burn, the fire must be out by noon, must be kept 50 feet from any structures and to keep water handy. The permit holder must also pay attention to wind conditions. It is also vital that burn permittees call 911 as soon as they think the fire might be getting out of control.
