SJC MULTI JURISDICTIONAL ALL HAZARDS MITIGATION PLAN
San Juan County, the Cities of Aztec, Bloomfield, and Farmington, and the Town of Kirtland, have partnered to review and update the San Juan County Multi Jurisdictional All Hazards Mitigation Plan.
This plan is designed to identify natural hazards that are most common in the communities participating in the plan, and allow each community to determine mitigation actions to prevent the severity of the hazard, prepare for the hazard, and when possible, apply for federal funding to assist in completion of mitigation projects.
The Mitigation Plan is a living document, but is required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to be updated every five years.
The plan has currently been approved pending community adoption by FEMA. Once adopted by the participating community partners, the plan will be given final approval by FEMA.

San Juan County Multi-Jurisdictional Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan
***Plan is in process of update***
San Juan County, New Mexico is threatened by a number of different natural hazards. These hazards endanger the health, safety, and welfare of the County’s population; jeopardize its economic vitality; and imperil the quality of its environment.
To avoid or minimize vulnerability to these hazards, the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (NMDHSEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provided support to San Juan County to undertake a hazard mitigation planning process.
The resulting Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan for San Juan County, New Mexico identifies and profiles those hazards that can affect San Juan County, assesses the County’s vulnerability to these hazards, and identifies alternative mitigation actions.
The Plan also includes an implementation strategy for preferred mitigation actions as selected and prioritized by a multi-jurisdictional community based planning team.
Notice: This document contains information pertaining to the deployment, mobilization, and tactical operations of San Juan County in response to emergencies. It is exempt from public disclosure under New Mexico state law.

Preparedness is the shared responsibility of our entire community; from the individual to local government and all the agencies and organizations in between.
San Juan County Office of Emergency Management (SJCOEM) strives to increase the capability of our community to respond to and recover from those hazards that pose the most risk locally.
SJCOEM facilitates training and exercises that bring together local industry, emergency responders, law enforcement agencies, educational institutions and private response groups.
These partnerships are maintained by everyday events and continued training so that when a large scale event occurs, all partners have worked together and are on the same response page.
The National Preparedness Goal
" A secure and resilient nation with the capabilities required across the whole community to prevent, protect against, mitigate, respond to, and recover from the threats and hazards that pose the greatest risk."
