Mandatory participation into the Public Employee Retirement Association (PERA) pension plan – www.nmpera.org

All regular non-enhanced eligible employees contribute to Municipal Plan 2 (MPL2).

All certified officers contribute to the enhanced Municipal Police Plan 5 (MPO5).
All certified firefighters contribute to enhanced Municipal Fire Plan 5 (MFR5).

Mandatory participation in NMRHCA (New Mexico Retiree Health Care Authority) – www.nmrhca.org

Benefit is only available to retirees who are collecting pension under PERA.
Non-enhanced members contribute 1% of base salary. The employer contributes 2% of base salary.
Enhanced members contribute 1.25% of base salary. The employer contributes 2.5% of base salary.

Medical Benefits

San Juan County offers three (3) carriers with five (5) medical plan options:

Presbyterian HMO
BCBS NM HMO or PPO
Cigna HMO or PPO

Prescription benefits are included in medical coverage and premium. Employee and dependents must be covered under the medical plan to be eligible for prescription drug coverage. CVS caremark Pharmaceutical is the pharmacy benefit manager.

Life Insurance

Basic Coverage (employee only)

$50,000 Basic life (AD&D included) paid 100% by employer for class 1, 2, 3, and 5. All employees are enrolled in coverage.

$75,000 Basic life (AD&D included) paid 100% by employer for class 4 (certified law enforcement only).

Supplemental Coverage (employee, spouse/domestic partner, and/or child(ren))

Disability Coverage Overview

To be eligible for disability, an employee must:

Be enrolled in the Disability Plan (employee coverage only) and pays 100% of plan premium.
Have paid disability premium for at least 12 consecutive months.

Short Term Disability – up to six (6) months following a 28-day elimination period

Employee must continue to pay premium to HR while out
Physician form and updates are due to Erisa every 4 to 6 weeks
Benefit is calculated at 60% of gross earnings while on short term disability, less any deductible
